Nuna Trvl Dubl Stroller vs Zoe Twin+: There’s a Clear Winner

A new Nuna Trvl Dubl stroller just entered the stroller market presenting itself as a side-by-side compact double travel stroller. Is it better than other lightweight side-by-side double strollers?

After reviewing over 100 different strollers over the years, let me show you how Nuna Trvl Dubl compares to the established Zoe Twin+ stroller. Let’s take a look at the specs and its pros and cons.

As it’s a double stroller, obviously neither Nuna Trvl Dubl nor Zoe Twin+ going to fit into the overhead bin of the airplane, so both would have to be gate-checked. Except for American Airlines which has a strict policy regarding double strollers and might ask you to check it at the desk, before going through security.

Biggest Pros of Nuna Trvl Dubl Stroller

Fold

The biggest pro of Nuna Trvl Twin is the same as the single one: it’s the fold. The stroller folds itself in seconds and can be unfolded one-handedly.

The essential mechanism is the same as on a single Nuna Trvl, but as the stroller is bigger and wider unfortunately I noticed that it can get stuck at times when the top closes and the stroller won’t fold. It’s not a huge deal, but for the enormous price tag, I would expect it to fold perfectly every time.

The competitor – Zoe Twin V2 stroller doesn’t offer the “flip and it folds” mechanism, but all you need to do is simply pull on the strap on the seats (which doesn’t bother the children, as it’s covered) and the stroller will fold. There’s no room for any malfunctioning in it.

Straps are retractable

Seat straps are amazing to clip on and unclip, and you can easily adjust the height as it’s retractable. All you need to do is slide it up or down with one hand.

Zoe Twin offers standard non-retractable straps, and I admit that they can be a pain to adjust. However, you won’t be adjusting straps more than every half a year or even a year.

Cons of Nuna Trvl Double

There are numerous cons to this stroller, especially when you take into account the $850 price tag, with only rain cover as an accessory. I will say that while the biggest con on Nuna Trvl single was that the mesh on top of the seat was blocking the recline for taller children, the double does not have that mesh which means that it can fit slightly taller children when reclined.

The seat backs are still pretty short, so despite the advertising claiming that it fits up to 50 lbs, I’ll say good luck fitting even a taller 3.5-year-old in it comfortably.

Canopy is over the parental bar

When the canopy is folded up completely it extends over the parental bar. It’s pretty annoying and while not a deal breaker, if you need to grab the stroller quickly it can be awkward so the canopy has to be slightly open to hold the stroller comfortably.

Both strollers have decent handlebar heights, but the Zoe Twin V2 is slightly better with its adjustable handlebar. Annoyingly, like the Nuna TRVL and Nuna TRVL LX, the canopies rest on your hands when not extended. I really don’t like this during summer.

Canopies on Zoe Twin don’t go that far backward and don’t extend over the parental bar.

Bumper bar isn’t separate

The Nuna stroller has one big bumper bar that both kids are locked in with and can hold onto. Why is this a disadvantage? Well, let me tell you that it’s much nicer to just open it for one child, vs opening a long big bar for both kids when only one wants to get out.

On Zoe you can open just one child and when the other seat is occupied by a baby in a car seat it’s not connected to your other child. You can also switch the bumper bar to a snack tray if you wish.

Seats are different width

If you don’t have multiple kids of similar ages (1-2.5 year difference) just yet, you might not know that they’ll fight over the silliest things. Having seats with different widths on the stroller is surely one of them.

The left seat is wider than the right one because it has to accommodate the car seat. The car seat rests on the same bumper bar that’s attached to both seats, which makes it impossible to let the toddler out without removing the car seat first and then removing the whole bar. It’s a ridiculously stupid thing.

More importantly, Zoe Twin has taller seats so my 5-year-old can still fit comfortably.

Only fits Nuna car seat

It might not be a con to everyone, but Nuna strollers can accommodate only Nuna car seats. Nuna car seats aren’t bad at all, on the contrary – Nuna Pipa Urban is fantastic and lightweight, but… it does not recline, and why personally we opted for Cybex with a recline.

It’s very bad to drive your infant around in a car seat for extended periods, as a flat surface is recommended instead (eg. a bassinet or car seat that reclines to flat).

It will also not accommodate two car seats, so if you’re having twins it’s not going to work from birth. However, neither will Zoe Twin as it can only take just one car seat. We started using our Zoe Twin V2 when the younger child was 4 months old though.

However, Zoe adapters can accommodate Cybex, Evenflo, Britax, Nuna, Maxi Cosi, Chicco and Grace car seats.

Nuna Trvl Dubl Stroller vs Zoe Twin Stroller Pricing

Neither of these double strollers is cheap, but in terms of longevity of usage, I will say that Nuna Trvl Double is no match for Zoe not only is $300 cheaper, but also includes a parent cup holder, two kid cup holders, and a snack cup.

The canopy of Zoe strollers, and really, is incredible, and in that department, Nuna is slacking. While it’s not bad, the canopy is much smaller. There are also no pockets on the back of the seat for parental phones or keys (and these little pockets are much desired!).

Nuna Trvl Double Stroller: Verdict & Final Thoughts

Honestly, despite the Nuna brand hype, there are just too many cons of Nuna Trvl Double to last long, just like Nuna Trvl single. The fold also gets stuck at times, unlike on the single Nuna Trvl, so for $850 it feels cheaply made.

I absolutely hate that the seats are different widths and having to remove a baby in a car seat before letting the sibling out is ridiculous. While I understand it’s due to car seat compatibility, the newborn only has to be in the stroller for 4 months, while you should get a few years out of the stroller so it makes very little sense to me.

I’d much recommend Zoe Twin or Silvercross Jet Double over the Nuna Trvl Double.
