Worldschooling Tips
Thinking of showing your kids the world or educating abroad?
I think every travel-loving family is asked: what are you going to do when your kids reach school age? For us, traveling is part of our lives, not a gap-year experience.
What is worldschooling?
Worldschooling is using the world as a classroom. Think of it as using the places as field trips for learning. You learn art history at the Louvre, science by visiting an active volcano, languages by playing with local kids at the playground, or history by visiting memorial sites.
How is worldschooling different than just traveling? It’s about HOW you travel.
While an all-inclusive resort in Mexico, a trip to Disney, or a beach vacation with a family can be a wonderful experience your kids will not get immersed in different countries and learn through traveling that way. Worldschooling is about immersing the family into a different culture and about getting to know the place you’re visiting, its customs, and people through eating locally, traveling like a local, and throwing yourself out there basically.
Worldschooling can be combined with traditional education in different countries and traveling during breaks. Essentially, this is what we do. We chose not to homeschool and we combine worldschooling with traditional school options around the world. Our kids frequently attend traditional schooling or camps around the world and we are happy to share our thoughts on it.
